Dr Zhiwei Wang is currently a Professor of Cardiovascular Surgery at Renmin Hospital of Wuhan University, Vice Director of the Cardiovascular Research Institute of Wuhan University. Dr Wang is a fellow of Chinese Society of Thoracic and Cardiovascular Surgery and the Chinese Association of Cardiovascular Surgeons, he is also the Vice President of Hubei Society of Thoracic and Cardiovascular Surgery. His academic and research fields mainly include basic and clinical research of Acute Aortic Dissection and Coronary Artery Disease. He has received over 10 scientific awards in his research fields. Dr Wang has published more than 200 research papers in scientific journals, including Journal of Thoracic and Cardiovascular Surgery, European Journal of Cardio-Thoracic Surgery, PLoS One and Annals of Vascular Surgery.
Dr Wang has been a cardiovascular surgeon for over 20 years, he performs more than 5000 cardiac surgeries, treats many conditions including Coronary Artery Disease, Congenital Heart Disease, Rheumatic Valvular Heart Disease, Great Artery Disease, Cardiac Arrhythmia and Cardiac Transplantation. Dr Wang has been on the leading edge of treating cardiovascular disease during the past 20 years, he constantly pioneered cardiovascular surgery in Hubei province and Central South district. He firstly performed Off Pump Coronary Artery Bypass Graft in 2001. Four years later, he became the first surgeon in Hubei Province and the fourth surgeon in China which performed Total Aortic Arch Replacement successfully. The success rate of the surgery is more than 95%, saving numerous patients of acute aortic dissection. In 2008, Dr Wang modified the surgical procedure by stent fenestration, which further improves the effect of total aortic arch replacement.
