As an important part of Wuhan University,Renmin Hospital of Wuhan University has been committed to the exploration and development of medical science and has engendered a wealth of achievements that depends on the leakproofness and spirit of cooperation. RHWU pays attention to the cultivation of scientific researchers and scientific research teams and also emphasizes the allocation and optimization of investment resources. With the aim of creating new glories in the field of scientific research, we are striving to improve the construction of scientific research supporting platforms as well as to promote the development of translational medicine.

There are a group of national key disciplines, key constructive disciplines supported by "Project 211” and “Project 985" in RHWU. At the same time, internal medicine and surgery are key disciplines of Hubei Province.

According to the needs of the development of medical scientific research, RHWU created a series of platforms to support the scientific research, for instance, national key laboratories, key laboratories of the Ministry of Health, state pharmaceutical clinical trial centers, clinical research centers at the provincial level etc. Among them, Model Animal Research Center Hubei Province is up to the international first-class technical level and characteristics.

Since 2000, RHWU has been awarded for more than 200 scientific and technological achievements which has a great influence in scientific community of Chinese medicine. The achievements including a second prize for National Technological Invention Award, 3 times of second prizes for National Science and Technology Progress Award, one time of third prize of National Science and Technology Progress Award.

Scientific researchers in RHWU published several journal papers with highest impact factors in world-class journals, such《NATURE》,《PNAS》,etc. According to the statistics of Institute of Science and Technology Information of China (SCI), the publication of scientific articles in number was ranked at the 11th position among national-wide medical organizations. In 2012, the number of articles published in the world's four biggest medical journals was listed the top in national medical organizations.

4 medical journals which distribute throughout the country are run by RHWU. A group of famous professors served as directors of committee members in The Chinese Medical Association and provincial or city branches, which bring the hospital a very high academic status home and abroad.
