Internationally Renowned Medical Experts Coming for Academic Exchange
On April 25, more than 20 internationally renowned medical experts from the United States, France, and the United Kingdom, led by Professor Joserph A. Hill, an internationally famous cardiovascular specialist from the UT Southwest Medical Center, were invited to visit Renmin Hospital of Wuhan University.
Members of the delegation are senior professionals in the study of cardiovascular and hepatic metabolism from the UT Southwest Medical Center, Harvard Medical School, UCLA (University of California, Los Angeles), Will Cornell Medical College of Cornell University, Campbell University, as well as the University of Ottawa Heart Institute, King's College London, and Paris Descartes University. These professionals had been invited to attend the International Conference on Hepatic and Cardiovascular Science, which was sponsored by Wuhan University for the discussion of the latest research progress and treatment strategies of diseases related to cardiovascular and hepetic matabolism.
The Conference was held at the Academic Activities Center of the Hospital. The people attending the symposium include Tang Qizhu (Vice-President of Wuhan University and President of the Hospital), Wan Honghui (Secretary of the Party Committee of the Hospital), Jiang Ying'an and Li Pingxiang (Vice-Presidents of the Hospital), Professor Gong Zuojiong (Department Director for Infectious Disease), Professor Yu Honggang (Department Director for Gastroenterology), Professor Gao Ling, (Department Director for Endocrinology on the East Campus), and Professor She Zhigang (Deputy Director for Cardiology), as well as heads of such departments as Party and Administration Office, Medical Department, Teaching & Research Office, Department of Publicity, and the Office for International Exchange and Cooperation.
Secretary Wan Honghui presided over the conference and opened the speech by quoting from the well-known Confucian saying, "It's a pleasure to have friends from afar," expressing the sincere welcome to all the guests. He pointed out in the speech that the Renmin Hospital aimed at "building a world-class hospital" and had carried out in-depth exchanges and cooperation with world-renowned medical institutions. He wished that the visit could help the guests to learn more about the University and lay the foundation for further academic communications and cooperation in medical practices and research.
In his speech, President Tang Qizhu warmly welcomed the international peers for their visit to the Renmin Hospital and Wuhan University for academic exchanges. He gave a brief introduction to the Renmin Hospital and Wuhan University and focused on the history, medical achievements, research and teaching achievements of the Renmin Hospital. He introduced the current development and future planning of the Main Campus, the Guanggu Campus, and the Hongshan Campus. In the speech, he also elaborated how the Hospital, as one of the top comprehensive hospitals in China, balanced medical treatment, medical worker education, and scientific research in the practical works. The speech earned widespread attention among the attendants.
President Tang said that he looked forward to taking this exchange as an opportunity to promote in-depth cooperation between the Renmin Hospital and the international medical institutes in the fields of scientific research, personnel training, and discipline construction.
Professor Hill expressed his pleasure of visiting Wuhan, Wuhan University, and the Renmin Hospital. He marveled at the development of the Renmin Hospital in recent years and praised the hospital's medical services, especially the series of research achievements in cardiovascular and hepatic metabolism in recent years. He expressed the wish to deepen the cooperation with Wuhan University and the Renmin Hospital in clinical science, medical education, scientific research, and hoped to make fruitful achievements early.
During the visit, Professor Yu Honggang and Professor Wang Yibin from the California NanoSystems Institute at UCLA exchanged views on their research directions and academic issues as representatives of the delegated specialists.
After the on-site exchange, the delegation members also visited the exhibition hall of the Renmin Hospital under the guidance of President Tang Qizhu. They praised the development of the Hospital and its great achievements in clinical science, research, and medical education. They expressed their wish to enhance mutual understanding and strengthen cooperation in personnel training, scientific research, and discipline construction.
