Nobel laureate Dr. Michael Levitt was appointed as guest professor of Renmin Hospital of Wuhan University
On November 11, Dr. Michael Levitt, winner of the 2013 Nobel Prize in Chemistry, was appointed as a guest professor at Renmin Hospital of Wuhan University (Hubei General Hospital).
Michael Levitt is a world-renowned biophysicist and is currently a professor of structural biology at Stanford University. In 2013, he was awarded the Nobel Prize in Chemistry for "creating a multi-scale model for complex chemical systems".
As a member of the American Academy of Sciences and a member of the Royal Society, Professor Michael Levitt has been closely watching the development of the epidemic in China and throughout the world since the outbreak of the new coronavirus pneumonia in 2020. In February of this year, he conducted a professional analysis of the novel corona virus pneumonia epidemic in China, especially in Wuhan, and concluded that the new coronavirus pneumonia epidemic will soon end in China. At the second World Health Expo that held in Wuhan on the November 11th, Michael Levitt was invited to give a speech at the opening ceremony.
After accepting the certificate of a guest professor awarded by Professor Wang Gaohua, Dean of Wuhan University Renmin Hospital and a staff badge wearing ceremony, Professor Michael Levitt said that he was honored to be appointed as a guest professor of Wuhan University Renmin Hospital. He reviewed the research and results that he and his team had done since January of this year, focusing on the new corona virus pneumonia epidemic for 290 days, and sincerely thanked China for sharing its anti-epidemic experience with the world while fighting the new coronavirus pneumonia epidemic. He particularly emphasized that when he came to Wuhan this time, he saw Wuhan, which was once in a very critical situation, had completely returned to normal. This is an incredible miracle. The people of Wuhan, especially the medical staff represented by the Renmin Hospital of Wuhan University are heroes.
Professor Michael Levitt said that after being hired as a guest professor of Wuhan University Renmin Hospital, he and his team will do their best to help Wuhan University Renmin Hospital and its tumor center in the "double first-class" construction, in basic and translational medicine research, young innovative talent training, and promote extensive cooperation in academic influence and other aspects.
Prof.Wan Honghui, Secretary of the Party Committee of the Renmin Hospital of Wuhan University, said that the appointment of Nobel Prize winner, Professor Michael Levitt, as the hospital’s guest professor is another important measure for the Renmin Hospital to promote the construction of a world-class hospital. We hope Professor Michael Levitt and his team will continue to play the key role of window, bridge, and leadership to promote the discipline construction of Renmin Hospital and the training of young talents. At the same time, it is also hoped that the two sides will strengthen cooperation and make new contributions to the global fight against the new coronavirus pneumonia epidemic and the maintenance of human health and well-being.
