The world's first medical remote sensing institute of information was established at the RenMin Hospital of Wuhan University

On 1 April 2022, RenMin Hospital of Wuhan University, the State Laboratory of Mapping and Remote Sensing Information Engineering of Wuhan University and the Institute of Aerospace Science and Technology entered into a strategic cooperation to jointly establish the "RenMin Hospital of Wuhan University Medical Remote Sensing Information Research Institute". This is also the first medical remote sensing information research institute in the world.

Li Deren, Academician of China Academy of Sciences and China Academy of Engineering, was appointed as the Honorary President. Gong Jianya, Academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences and Director of the Wuhan University Institute of Aerospace Science and Technology, serves as President. Chen Rui Zhi, Academician of the Finnish Academy of Sciences and Humanities and Director of the State Key Laboratory of Mapping and Remote Sensing Information Engineering at Wuhan University, and Professor Li Pingxiang of the Renmin Hospital of Wuhan University served as Executive Director.

Dr Li introduced the integration of satellite remote sensing technology combined with computer information technology and modern medicine. It can achieve more accurate and efficient individual diagnosis and treatment, and at the same time can accurately help epidemic prevention and epidemiological investigation, and map out the impact of environmental factors on health. This will effectively improve the level of disease prevention and diagnosis.
